Some things to consider when making a proper will.
1. If there are minor children involved you want to name a Guardian and two backups in the will who will take care of them if you die. Contact these people to make sure they are OK with the task. You can also name a trustee who will hold their inheritance until they reach the age of majority or an age you set in the will.
2. You will want to name a personal representative or executor and two backups who will be in charge of the estate in the probate process. Contact these people to make sure they are OK with the task.
3. Decide how you will want the assets of your estate divided. You can name specific bequests with an asset to a certain person or how to divide the residuary clause or who gets all of the assets not specifically named in the will. If there are situations where you want to strings on the assets, you will have to decide on that. An estate planning lawyer can best help you accomplish dividing the assets of your estate.
